Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar Biography
Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar is a TV actress who was born on June 10, 1992 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She was so passionate for singing and acting that she couldn’t wait to complete her graduation before starting her acting carrier and started working on Indian television with Life Ok’s ‘2612/2613’ with co-actor Maninder Singh in 2012-13. Then she played Dhara’s role in Colors’ ‘Sanskaar-Dharohar Apno Ka.’ But the turning point came after she completed her graduation in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Mumbai University in 2015, and was approached for Ragini’s role in Colors’ ‘Swaragini.’ From there, she was transformed into the Tejaswi that we know today. She was also the attention of media for her controversial relationship with Namish Taneja which she denied.
Tejaswi Prakash, better known as Teju, was born on June 10, 1992 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She belongs to a family of engineers and never thought about getting into acting; being an actor was not her dream. It was not something that she planned, it just happened by chance. She says, “I used to act during my childhood… It’s just that now I am getting paid for it (laughs), but it was never my dream to do acting. It was something that just happened and not something I planned.”
Her father Prakash Wayangakar who is a singer in Dubai wanted her to be an engineer, so she decided to graduate from Electronics and Telecommunication and rolled in Mumbai University to pursue Bachelor of Engineering (BE) from ECE.
And because she used to see her dad singing daily, she too developed a keen interest in music, singing. She practiced daily with her father and finally blossomed into a fantastic singer and musician.
Breaking into the TV industries
She planned to be an engineer. But as the saying goes, “If you want to make god laugh, tell him about your plans.” Destiny had its own plans for her.
During her college festivals she used to participate in fashion shows, personality shows, even dance competitions. Then one day she participated in a beauty contest which obviously she won. The very next day her picture was in the newspaper and luckily one member of the production crew saw it and called her for audition.
And though she didn’t want to go because she didn’t want to be an actress and besides she was too busy in her engineering study and had no time for anything else, but in spite of all the odds she did give it a try anyway. She says, “I participated in inter-college fashion shows, personality shows and dance competitions. One day, I was just called for a daily soap audition and thought not to go, but my mother accompanied me to try it and I got selected.”
This is how she got her first role with Life Ok’s ‘2612’ with co-actor Maninder Singh in 2012-13. She played the role of Rashmi in the serial and said, “These posters have already raised curiosity about what is ‘2612’. I am sure you will watch the show and this show is to wake up Mumbai after 26/11. So, people should definitely watch it.”
“Rashmi (the character) represents the common man. The 26/11 incident was a bad time for Mumbai. Now what is ‘2612’ – a number, a name or a date, the common man does not know what it is. But when you watch the story, you will see how ‘2612’ will become my life, what it is and how I fight for it,” she added.
Then she played Dhara’s role in Colors’ ‘Sanskaar-Dharohar Apno Ka.’ But the turning point in her carrier came in 2015 when she decided to play the lead role in upcoming ‘Swaragini’ and went for auditions. She knew deep inside that it was impossible to get this role, but in spite of all odds she accepted the challenge and went for it.
She says, “I played the lead role in Sanskaar that ended in May. I am the first person who has been repeated by the channel as lead again. With so many fresh faces coming in the industry, even the channel had doubts whether to cast me or not. It was very difficult for me to convince them that I can do an entirely different show. I feel blessed that the channel showed confidence in me,”
She lived the saying “try and fail, but never fail to try” and succeeded in securing the role of Ragini in Colors’ ‘Swaragini.’ And though, she joined the crew of ‘Swaragini’ with enthusiasm, but she soon became very upset due to two reasons. First, she was upset with her character development in the series because Ragini’s character was initially introduced in the show as a lead, who was supposed to be a positive, traditional girl, but with twists in the plot her role was turned upside down. She tolerated up to a point, but she couldn’t take it when she was asked to drug her sister Swara (Helly Shah) to kill her – she refused. She took a bold move, and had a word with the production house (Rashmi Sharma Telefilms Ltd.) regarding the same. Second, juggling between studies and work was no easy task and it was not what she imagined it to be. She said,“It is very tough for me since it’s a regular course and it’s difficult to keep up with the attendance. Whenever it is an off from work I head to college. Engineering students are really not that crazy about actors. Instead, they ask me why do I get into TV and why do I cry so much in my shows.” So, Juggling studies and work was no easy task for her and she often had to carry her college assignments to work.
After ‘Swaragini,’ she was seen in Color’s ‘Comedy Nights Live’ and ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’ as a guest with her co-actor Namish Taneja.
Currently Tejaswi is playing the female lead in Sony TV’s ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ as Diya.
There were rumors that Tejaswi Prakash was dating his co-actor Namish Taneja, but Tejaswi cleared that there was no romantic relationship between her and Namish. She said, “I don’t entertain anybody on the set, so getting involved with someone at work is impossible. In fact, I don’t even approve of people flirting or joking with me. I don’t have to date my co-actor to get the chemistry right. Where’s the need for that? As an actress, all I need to do is emote in front of the camera; I don’t have to replicate that in my real life. Most people find me intimidating and I am proud of that.”
Still the gossip maker didn’t stop until she said, “Namish is just a friend, actually she’s like a brother to me.”
